64KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE AND PRACTICE OF PHARMACOVIGILANCE AMONG HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS OF CHENNAIPharmacovigilance also known as drug safety. Under Reporting is the common problem faced in pharmacovigilance. It depends on the cooperation and awareness of the health professionals. We need to improve the knowledge attitude and practice regarding pharmacovigilance in order to bring up the reporting rate. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the knowledge, attitude, and practices (KAP) of pharmacovigilance among the health professionals Annan agar, Chennai. Methods: It was a prospective questionnaire based survey type of study. This was carried among the health professionals who are practicing autonomously in Anna nagar, Chennai. A set of questionnaire were framed and made convenient for the health professionals to answer. They were given and collected after it was filled. The response was statistically analysed. Results: 450 forms were distributed and 324 were received back, the response rate being 72%. 4% doctors didn’t know about the term pharmacovigilance. 68.20% doctors experienced ADR during their routine clinical practices. The ADR reporting was observed only in 7% of the responders.. The reason behind under reporting is lack of knowledge, awareness and the medico legal aspects.28.82% doctors agreed to keep ADR monitoring mandatory. The most preferred methods for ADR reporting were email and personal communication. Conclusions: knowledge and awareness were solely responsible for minimizing the under reporting of ADRs.
