The plant samples were
extracted by boiling the plant roots in water. From the study the infused roots of Vernonia adoensis were found to contain
tannins, saponins, terpenoids, phenols, alkaloids, and steroidal rings but flavonoids and steroids were found to be absent. The
presence of these important phytochemicals in the plant roots is a scientific prove of the use of the plant in the traditional
treatment against various diseases affecting humans and animals. However, more research needs to be done to identify the
specific compounds, their structural formulas and contribution to the medicinal value of the plant.
<Email>drtanthony2011@yahoo.com</Email><articletype>Research</articletype><volume>4</volume><issue>1</issue><year>2014</year><keyword>Phytochemicals,Medicine,Roots,Infused,Vernonia</keyword><AUTHORS>Anthoney Swamy T,Mutuku Chrispus Ngule,Obey Jackie K</AUTHORS><afflication> Department of Chemistry, University of Eastern Africa Baraton, PO Box 2500-30100, Eldoret, Kenya., Department of Chemistry, University of Eastern Africa Baraton, PO Box 2500-30100, Eldoret, Kenya.,Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences, University of Eastern Africa, PO Box 2500-30100, Eldoret, Kenya.</afflication></Article></Articles>
