29MANAGEMENT OF POST OPERATIVEPAIN AND ASSESSMENT OF PATIENT SATISFACTION IN SURGERY WARD IN RMMCHTo assess the acute postoperative pain management and patient satisfaction and to evaluate the relationship between preoperative factors in surgical ward at Rajah Muthiah Medical College and Hospital. The study was conducted in the department of surgery of Rajah Muthiah Medical College and Hospital, Annamalai University, in the period of November 2011 to February 2012. After obtaining patients informed consent, 50 patients scheduled for various surgeries like abdominal surgeries, hernia, Hemorrhoids, Appendicitis, Hydrocele, Thyroid and Amputation of limbs due to diabetes under routine practice conditions, were included in the study and measuring the patient’s pain with the visual analogue scale (VAS). 50% of patients were mildly satisfied with postoperative pain management. Our strategy showed patient satisfaction with pain management, 28% of the postoperative patient were moderately satisfied, 22% of the postoperative patients were very satisfied.
