169A CASE STUDY ON SNAKE BITE INDUCED HAEMOLYTIC URAEMIC SYNDROME WITH ACUTE KINEY INJURY(AKI) Snake bite is a life-threatening condition and is most commonly seen in rural tropical areas. Snake bites can result in local and systemic complications. Haemolytic uraemic syndrome is an acute illness characterized by the occurance of renal injury, haemolytic anaemia with red cell fragmentation. CASE PRESENTATION: We present a case of 25 year old male patient from rural area who presented with a history of having been bitten by a snake(Russells viper) without any first-aid, the patient went to local hospital after 1 hour where he was treated with 3 vials of anti-venom and these inappropriate dose and delay in administration of anti-venom, the patient developed anuria, haematuria, haematemesis(10ml), right upper limb edema and then he was referred to tertiary care hospital and further treatment was given to the patient and his condition was improved at the time of discharge. CONCLUSION: Snake bite is a significant health problem in India, particularly in the rural areas.In general, snake bites accounts for about 45900 deaths every year and 3% of total AKI reported in India. AKI complicates the course of viper bite in 5-30%.We reported a case of snake envenomation induced Haemolytic uraemic syndrome with AKI.
