continuing. Herbal treatments have growing demand in worldwide as they are lack of adverse effects as compare to synthetic
formulations. In the present study, herbal hair oil was formulated, using potential herbs like leaves of Bacopa monnieri, seeds
of Trigonella foenum-graecum, flowers of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, bark of Ficus religosa and roots of Nordostachys jatamansi
in til oil and coconut oil. 2% Minoxidil was used as reference control. Herbal hair oil formulation and Minoxidil were
topically applied over the shaved area of mice, once a daily for 30 days. Qualitative hair growth analysis was undertaken by
observing Hair growth initiation time (Minimum time taken to initiate hair growth on denuded skin region), hair growth
completion time (Minimum time taken to completely cover the denuded skin region with new hair) and mean hair length.
Result showed that, both Minoxidil and herbal hair oil formulation showed significant (P<0.01) decrease in hair growth
initiation time and hair growth completion time. Also both Minoxidil and Herbal hair oil formulation showed significant
(P<0.01) increase in mean hair length compared to control. From the result, it was concluded that the herbal Hair Oil
Formulation promotes the hair growth in mice.
<Email>sengt@rediffmail.com</Email><articletype>Review</articletype><volume>6</volume><issue>2</issue><year>2016</year><keyword>Hair Growth Promotion,Minoxidil,Bacopa Monnieri,Trigonella foenum-graecum,Hibiscus rosa-sinensis,Ficus religosa and Nordostachys jatamansi</keyword><AUTHORS>Dhandapani R,Jayakumar P,Jaikumar S</AUTHORS><afflication>Assistant Professor, Department of Dermatology, Sri Lakshmi Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences, Pondicherry, India.,Professor, Department of Pediatric Surgery, Sri Lakshmi Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences, Pondicherry, India.,Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacology, Sri Lakshmi Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences, Pondicherry, India</afflication></Article></Articles>
