To ensure therapeutic adequacy of medication, a motor seizure period longer than 25 seconds has been prescribed and brief seizures are considered negative predictors of outcome. Anaesthetics used during ECT for general anaesthesia can have gradual onset, rapid onset, do not interfere with seizure activity, and do not prolong the duration of seizures. Since most short-acting anaesthetics have anticonvulsant effects, the threshold can be raised and the seizure spread can be inhibited, thus altering the seizure activity and shortening its duration. The purpose of this research was to compare the impact on seizure durations, haemodynamic condition, postictal suppression index, and recovery periods during electroconvulsive therapy of enflurane, a proconvulsive anaesthetic agent, and propofol, as a comparison anaesthetic agent. Although enflurane anaesthesia produced ample ECT seizures, it did not provide an added beneficial effect on seizure periods. In comparison, there were faster healing times than for propofol anaesthesia. However, further research on the various levels of ETCO2 are also needed
